Starting a YouTube Channel? Don’t Buy a Fancy Camera
Save your money.
There I said it: YouTubers don’t need a fancy camera.
Emphasis on the word “need,” ok?
While it’s incredible to have a video shot in an excellent quality that only a professional camera can provide, it’s still doesn’t merit buying one when you’re just starting and aren’t making money to reinvest into your channel.
If you tell me that you’re making a thousand dollars from your channel, then yeah, go ahead. Hell, even if you made a thousand dollars during the entire last year, you should still reinvest in better equipment.
For the last 16 months, I shot many of my non-zoom video calls using an iPhone camera coupled with Camo Studio to bring the iPhone’s camera as a video source on OBS or Camtasia.
In fact, I’m writing this piece as I’m streaming to YouTube a productivity session with — you guessed it — my iPhone as my camera!
You can do this, too! If you already own an iPhone, why should you spend your hard-earned cash to buy a fancy camera when your phone could record 4k?
Think about it! When you’re starting to make money online, it’s time to reinvest it into your business. Otherwise, use your phone for now.
